What is WOT

Well it isn’t the Brit slang for what, WOT stands for ‘Web Of Trust’.

WOT is a free Internet security addon for your browser. It will keep you safe from online scams, identity theft, spyware, spam, viruses and unreliable shopping sites. WOT provides you an extra layer of security by warning you before you interact with a risky website. It’s easy and it’s free.

I added WOT to my browsers Firefox and IE. The rogue program ‘XPAntivirus2008′ gave this alert.

Why is Site Advisor still rating XPAntivirus2008 as a ‘Green Site?

Really I give up on them.

  1. Hi,

I would like to take another example of roque software that gives false alarms and tries to scare unaware Internet users to pay for the product that they don’t really need. Watch the documented scam on the video:

The result of PCDocPro free scan: Clean Windows Vista Ultimate install has 570+ problems, out of which 31 severe – oh yes! And they help you to solve this urgent “problem” if you pay them $29.95 for a 30 day license – great!

    Check the WOT scorecard:

    PCDocPro is green on Siteadvisor.

  2. With all due respect, you have told me nothing. “it will keep you safe” and “it is easy to use” are phrases that contain no useful information whatsoever. The question is WHAT is it. WHAT do you do with it?. WHAT does it do with you. How does it work? How do you use it?. When I know that, I”l be able to tell YOU if it kept me safe and was easy to use, but first (Try to concentrate now because this is the question)………………..WHAT is it? And how do you make some use of it?

  3. Hello Dave,

I did not say it will keep you safe, I ‘quoted’ from the site.

Please go to WOT http://www.mywot.com/ and read up, then you can decide if you want to try the program and if you do, find out if it proves useful to you.

Personally I did and I do.

When I know that, I”l be able to tell YOU if it kept me safe and was easy to use,

See for yourself? At which point feel free to give your opinion on the program, makes sense to me… ;)
